Beauty has always been a significant part of my life. Growing up in the ’80s, my Saturday mornings were spent at my mother’s favorite salon. The make-up artists artfully applied my mom’s signature lipstick (Spungold Red), contoured her cheeks and dabbed highlight under her perfectly arched brows. I was nothing short of mesmerized by the glamour and excitement surrounding me.
As a pre-teen, I relished shopping sprees at the local Calabasas drugstore. Each dollar I had went toward expanding my collection of beauty products. By high school, I was my friends’ unofficial make-up artist before any big event. They loved my ability to effortlessly create a simple yet pretty look.
During my college years, I founded my first make-up line, Dramatic Designs Cosmetics, which was sold exclusively by college students on campuses across the country. The line began with sales to my sorority sisters, gradually expanding beyond our house and even university to other college campuses. With each step I learned more about products, the industry and running my own business.
One snowy February day, a visit to New York City’s Bergdorf Goodman changed my life. As I strolled the cosmetics floor, I caught sight of beauty legend Bobbi Brown — and I immediately knew I had to introduce myself. Three interviews later, I was offered an opportunity of a lifetime: a position in global product development, specializing in the creation of eye, lip, cheek and nail products.
I spent six years at Bobbi Brown focusing on the wearable and practical aspects of cosmetics while simultaneously honing my skills as a make-up artist. I traveled the world as a brand ambassador, speaking about beauty to women around the country and the world. As I taught simple, lifestyle-inspired techniques, l gathered information important to developing new formulations that delivered even-more-successful desired results. In creating the products, I also helped drive seasonal make-up trends, which were showcased via the brand’s advertising campaigns and the fashion runways for designers, including Badgley Mischka, Gucci, Jil Sander, Jeffrey Chow, Matthew Williamson and Roland Mouret.
In 2005, my experiences as a make-up artist, product innovator and beauty expert culminated in the launch of my own company, JESSICA LIEBESKIND MAKE-UP ARTISTRY. Some days were spent shooting on set or catering to my private clientele: stylish, influential women who love to look natural. At other times I was perfecting luxurious formulations and designing color collections for the world’s most prestigious beauty brands.
My celebrity clients have included models, entertainers, socialites and designers, such as Heidi Klum, Gretchen Mol, Lorraine Bracco, Olivia Palermo, Ricky Lauren, Jenna Bush, Bethenny Frankel, Angela Missoni, Nicole Miller and Catherine Malandrino. I have appeared on Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, Extra and the Fine Living Network’s I Want Your Job. I also have been tapped for editorial features and photo shoots for countless magazines, including Brides, Cosmopolitan, Glamour, Marie Claire, O The Oprah Magazine, Quest, Real Simple, Self and Teen Vogue.
